Linger

10 October 2015 - 3 January 2016

We were delighted to present Linger, a music installation comprising a set of six new piano pieces composed for and performed on Emily Brontë's piano by Irish contemporary classical composer Ailís Ní Ríain, who lives near Haworth.  Each composition reflected the essence of the room it is heard in.  Visitors to the museum were invited to dwell in quiet contemplation and thought; to linger.

These new pieces of work were between three and five minutes in duration and were composed especially to 'lock into each other' when heard at a distance. In essence, Ailís composed six intertwining, contrapuntal voices which are separated into six rooms of the Parsonage. Elements of each piece drifted out of each room, and formed a sonorous space all of its own on and around the stairwell.
