Enjoy Ian Humphrey's Brontë-inspired poetry outside!

Welcome to Poetry in Parson's Field - a poetry trail behind the Parsonage designed to complement the natural beauty of your surroundings. Scattered throughout the meadow is a sequence of brand new poems by Ian Humphreys, inspired by the Museum’s big theme for 2023: ‘Year of the Wild’.

Ian was the Museum’s Writer-in-Residence from April 2023 to March 2024. During this time, he spent many days walking Haworth Moor and beyond, and studying the literature and lives of the Brontës. The result is a collection of stirring new poems - a handful of which we’re delighted to share with you here.

Ian’s latest book, Tormentil, also contains work inspired by his residency, and can be found in our Museum bookshop and online here.
Head to Parson's Field (behind the Museum) on a day we're open, then scan the QR codes next to the benches with your smartphone to listen to - and read - the poems.

This is a free installation - no need to book.

Enjoy the views and the poetry!
