The Brontës immediately conjure images of wild Yorkshire moors and the cobbled streets of Howarth. On the 200 year anniversary of Charlotte Brontë’s birth, this season celebrates and reimagines the extraordinary stories they wrote, their cultural legacy and their remarkable, yet tragic lives.

Wuthering Heights presented by Northern Ballet
Immerse yourself in Cathy and Heathcliff’s turbulent love affair as the ‘best dance actors in the world’ capture the spirit of Wuthering Heights and the untamed beauty of the Yorkshire moors.

Villette by Linda Marshall-Griffiths
A daring new adaptation that echoes the illness and loss that wracked Brontë’s own life, both novel and play explore the redemptive power of love and the uncertainty of holding onto it.

Wasted by Christopher Ash and Carl Miller
A new musical drama telling the remarkable true story of four young people with huge passions and amazing dreams, Wasted is the Brontës as you have never seen them before.

Know Your Place created by Rocket
An interactive collaborative digital arts project, gathering together individuals from the past 200 years who have followed in the Brontë family’s footstep and challenged society’s norms.
 
Jane Eyre vs. Villette Debate
Join us to decide which is Charlotte Brontë’s best novel. Blake Morrison and Sarah Perry will advocate for Jane Eyre, whilst Salley Vickers and Ruth Robbins will support Villette. This event is hosted by Yvette Huddleston.
 
The Brontës: A Life in Letters Readings
A series of readings of Brontë letters brought to life by actors from the company of Villette. Hear about the Brontës’ work, family and passions, in their own words.
