Evening event in the museum
The Brontës were interested in astronomy, and so we’re delighted to be joined by Bradford and Keighley Astronomical Societies for an afternoon and evening of enlightenment in all things astronomical! Learn more about astronomy in the early to mid 1800s, the impact of light pollution, and take a look at an antique brass telescope from the 1820s. Computer programmes can wind the night sky back to any given date, so discover more about the night sky in the time of the Brontës, and participate in some observation (clear skies permitting!).
The doors open at 4.30pm in The Old School Room, and there will be a short talk about astronomy in the Brontës' time at 5.00pm. Entrance is free, and all are welcome. There is an optional rocket-making workshop for younger visitors, so come along for a family half-term treat.
After 5.30pm, entrance to the Museum will be free to all visitors providing proof of residence in the BD22, BD21 and BD20 postcode areas and also to all those living in Thornton, birthplace of the Brontës. Admission to the Old School Room is free to all, but there is a £3 charge for optional rocket-making workshop.
