The Brontë Parsonage Museum are excited to announce the ‘Brontë Free Festival – Words on the Street’, a weekend of free activities for families from Saturday 23rd September to Sunday 24th September.
Words on the Street is a sister festival to the Brontë Festival of Women’s Writing, running the same weekend, with a programme of  free activites and amazing experiences especially for families to explore words, art and storytelling together.

A wide range of activities will be on offer, including live storytelling, creative writing, street art and unbelievable pop-up performances. From animal-themed family yoga to a pop-up poetry takeaway, for two jam-packed days creativity will burst out of the museum grounds and into the cobbled streets of Haworth.

Highlights include:

•    Family Yoga – Can you stand tall like a tree? Stretch out like a snake? Join yogi Emma Conally-Barklem for a roar-some animal yoga session for all the family!

•    Words and Stories with Nicky Peacock – A poem on a sweet wrapper? A miniature zine of your life story? Pop in to the festival tent to say hello to Nicky and her typewriter and see where the conversation takes you.

•    Treemendous - The cobbles of Haworth will come alive with tree-mendous stilt walkers performing throughout the day.

•    Big Chalk Art Workshop – Transform the cobbles outside the museum with large-scale chalk art, everyone is welcome to get involved!

•    Sophia’s Little Books and Little Beasts – Family workshop with Sophia Hatfield, inspired by Aesop’s Fables. Enjoy a captivating bug-themed story before embarking on a creative outdoor nature hunt.

•    Jess Kidd’s Green Corner – Join Yorkshire artist Jess Kidd in the festival tent to draw, create, and learn a little bit about sustainability on the way!

•    The Poetry Takeaway – C’mon down to the Poetry Takeaway, where a talented group of ‘poet chefs’ will be serving up tasty takeaway treats in the form of bespoke poems created especially for you.

•    Living Lamp Posts - The Victorian Streets are alive, and they’d like to say hello! Find the Living Lampposts wandering the streets of Haworth.

Events run from 10am to 3pm on Saturday and 11am to 3pm on Sunday. All activities are free with no booking required. Families are invited to drop in throughout the day. All welcome!
