A unique after-hours event
The Brontës were voracious readers throughout their lives, but the literary figure who made by far the most impact upon them while they were young was Lord Byron. Seen as a scandalous figure in the Brontës' youth, they idolised his poetry, owned his collected works and were said to know his writing as well as they knew their Bible. Join Simon Brown, Curator at Newstead Abbey, to explore Byron in more detail, and to tract the impact he had on the Brontës, and, more widely, on the culture of the early nineteenth century.
