Step into a Victorian Christmas as we welcome author and historian Lucinda Hawksley to the Brontë Lounge.

Perhaps it’s no surprise that two of Lucinda Hawksley’s books are Victorian Christmas and Dickens and Christmas – because she is a great great great granddaughter of the man who wrote A Christmas Carol. Lucinda will be sharing stories about Victorian Christmases and how her ancestor helped to shape the way in which the festive season is still celebrated today.

Lucinda’s other books include biographies of the artists Kate Perugini (née Dickens), Princess Louise and Elizabeth Siddal, as well as Dickens and TravelLetters of Great WomenThe Writer AbroadBitten by Witch Fever, Charles Dickens and his Circle, and March, Women, March. Lucinda lectures on literature and art history, and she teaches Life Writing for the University of Cambridge.

Lucinda is a Patron of the Charles Dickens Museum in London, and was President of the International Dickens Fellowship from 2024 to 2026.

If the event is cancelled, we’ll contact you. We reserve the right to make changes to our programme. All information is correct at the time of booking.
