Outreach programme
Community outreach is important to us.
We work with a number of community groups on a long-term basis, as well as providing one-off opportunities for organisations.
The work we do with community groups varies. Sometimes, we work in partnership with arts organisations on specific projects, using our collection and environment as inspiration, while at other times we might host regular visits from groups.
Previous projects have included a poetry project with a small group of male refugees, textile projects with South Asian women, and creative writing and art sessions with young people.
Some community groups and charities enjoy one-off visits on an annual basis. We're always happy to facilitate visits and work out the best programme depending on circumstances and budget.
If you'd like to talk to our Outreach Officer about bringing your group to the Museum or about us visiting you - or if you have a project in mind -please contact [email protected] with the subject line 'Outreach'.
Threaded Journeys exhibition July – September 2025
Threaded Journeys was the culmination of an 18-month project with the Brontë Stitching Group, in collaboration with textile artist Claire Wellesley-Smith. The group is made up of participants from Haworth and nearby villages and women from KAWACC, a women and children’s centre in Keighley.
The panel was hand-stitched by the group and explores the different parts of Bradford and District experienced by the participants on a daily basis. Together, they demonstrated how journeys that may be short and seemingly unremarkable, are nevertheless meaningful. A short poem by Emily Brontë (‘‘Twas one of those dark cloudy days’) was an inspiration, particularly the line, ‘And deeper green is on the hill,’ which speaks to the landscape around us.
The stitching group still meets on a fortnightly basis in the Old School Room, Haworth, and members of the local community are very welcome to join.
