‘Dangerous as lucifer matches’ is how Arthur Bell Nicholls, Charlotte’s husband, described her letters. The letters in our collection are our most direct source of information about the lives of all the Brontës. Through these letters we learn of life at the Parsonage, the miserable experience of being a governess, the death of Charlotte’s siblings, and later trips to London and Scotland, where Charlotte enjoyed a degree of literary celebrity. Join us for an intimate evening examining letters by Charlotte and other members of the Brontë family.
