A weekend of free activities for families to explore words, art and storytelling together!
Words on the Street is the sister festival to the Brontë Festival of Women’s Writing, especially for families. Explore free activites and amazing experiences to inspire you and your family to explore words, art and storytelling together! A wide range of activities will be on offer, including live storytelling, creative writing, street art and unbelievable pop-up performances.

From animal-themed family yoga to a pop-up poetry takeaway, for two jam-packed days creativity will burst out of the museum grounds and into the cobbled streets of Haworth.

Saturday 23rd September

10.30am Family Yoga – Can you stand tall like a tree? Stretch out like a snake? Join yogi Emma Conally-Barklem for a roar-some animal yoga session for all the family!

11am Big Chalk Art Workshop – Transform the cobbles outside the museum with large-scale chalk art, everyone is welcome to get involved!

12pm Sophia’s Little Books and Little Beasts – Family workshop with Sophia Hatfield, inspired by Aesop’s Fables. Enjoy a captivating bug-themed story before embarking on a creative outdoor nature hunt.

With other activites throughout the day, including poetry chefs The Poetry Takeaway, stilt walkers Treemendous, creative activities in Jess Kidd's Green Corner and some personal Words and Stories with Nicky Peacock.

 
Sunday 24th September

Jess Kidd’s Green Corner – Join Yorkshire artist Jess Kidd in the festival tent to draw, create, and learn a little bit about sustainability on the way!

The Poetry Takeaway – C’mon down to the Poetry Takeaway, where a talented group of ‘poet chefs’ will be serving up tasty takeaway treats in the form of bespoke poems created especially for you.

Living Lamp Posts - The Victorian Streets are alive, and they’d like to say hello! Find the Living Lampposts wandering the streets of Haworth.


All activites running from 11am - 3pm unless otherwise stated. Free with no booking required. All welcome!


Words on the Street runs alongside the Brontë Festival of Women’s Writing (Friday 22nd to Sunday 24th September). Tickets are  on sale on the website now.

Words on the Street is support by City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council and is part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
