This talk will consider Emily Brontë’s literary relationship with the figure of the vampire, tracing the influence of German literature upon her understanding and usage of the vampire figure in Wuthering Heights, and the impact of such on contemporary vampire fiction. Stephenie Meyer’s Eclipse, the third instalment in her vampire series Twilight draws inspiration from Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, and this talk will consider the extent to which Emily Brontë plays a crucial role in the legacy of vampire fiction from the nineteenth century to the present day.
