Remnants

21 August – 28 November 2010

Su Blackwell creates book-cut sculptures, intricate three dimensional illustrations cut from the pages of books. The Brontë Parsonage Museum commissioned her to create new work in response to the Brontës and the museum collection. The resulting exhibition ‘Remnants’, was a series of site-specific installations, on display throughout the historic rooms of the house. Su Blackwell’s delicate interventions - moths fluttering out from Mr Brontë’s nightgown, or toy soldiers raging in battle in the children’s study – suggest the Brontës’ imaginary worlds, and were displayed amongst the Brontës’ possessions, drawing connections with the Brontës' use of paper as a precious material.
