Stride out with us to mark Patrick Brontë’s birthday and walk in his footsteps following his favourite river walk behind Dewsbury Minster, where Patrick was rector from 1809 to 1811.

In partnership with Kirklees Museums and Galleries, we’re offering this steady-paced, guided walk along the river, sharing stories of Patrick’s early years in Yorkshire – including how he saved a boy’s life – and exploring Dewsbury’s links to the Brontë family. We will also share details of the ‘Friendship’ exhibition at Oakwell Hall and Country Park, Birstall, where a nineteenth-century portrait of Charlotte Brontë (Kirklees Museums and Galleries) is on show, with further connections to Dewsbury.

This circular walk should take around 1 to 1.5 hours and is on level terrain, but not all on smooth paths. Please wear suitable footwear and bring waterproofs, water and refreshments if desired.

If the event is cancelled, we’ll contact you. We reserve the right to make changes to our programme. All information is correct at the time of booking.
