Job Description

Could you be a Brontë Society Trustee?

As we move into 2026, with a new adaptation of Wuthering Heights, and exciting capital development plans on the horizon, the Brontë Society would like to hear from people who have the requisite skills and experience to join the Board of Trustees.

The Brontë Society is a registered charity and is responsible for the Brontë Parsonage Museum in Haworth, including the care of the largest collection of original Brontë material in the world.  In 2023, the collection was awarded ‘Designated as Outstanding’ status and we aim to continue championing this through our commitment to promoting the Brontë family’s legacy.

We are also proud to be one of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio Organisations for literature and are looking to the future as a resilient, inclusive and modern charity. We are also very proud of our upwards of 1,500 world-wide group of members.

It is vital, therefore, that the Board of Trustees comprises a diverse range of individuals who collectively bring different expertise, skills and lived experience to form a whole and balanced team that fully represents the society we live in today.

We pride ourselves on being an inclusive and accessible organisation and we would expect anyone standing as a trustee to demonstrate a shared commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusivity.

Being a trustee of the Brontë Society is an extremely valuable and rewarding experience. We offer significant opportunities to share and develop skills in areas including finance, governance, and strategic thinking in the context of a registered charitable company in the museum and heritage sector.

Board members all have trustee duties, serious governance responsibilities and obligations, both as trustees of a registered charity and as directors of a Company Ltd by guarantee.
